Keeper of the ILBR
I do remember a bus being mentioned come to think of it....
Rust is the thing with them. I've owned 3 1979 T2's in the past - two were perfect and never caused any issues whatsoever, one I really got taken in with - mechanical issues as well as rust problems. And they're expensive to repair too because of the expanse of the body panels, every blemish, ripple shows. But I can see the attraction of the splits though, I mean just look at them - such a nice design - you just can't help but like the looks.
Sorry to hear it didn't work out but at least you had some fun with it for the short time it was with you.

The Lakeland VW Classic has come and gone, and this year we took the '56.
2016 marks the 31st year since I drove this this car to my first VW shows.
Check out my swap meet setup. These are stackable palettes that easily fir on the rear seat. Don't laugh. I made
a lot of money selling "smalls." For me it's the best of both worlds. I can enjoy the car show, and don't have to sit
in the swap meet area all day surrounded by junk.
Also, if you go back to page 1 of this thread, I have re-uploaded many of the old missing photos.

Yup. And I sold it to my buddy Frank.
Weird thing. My best customers are all my friends. I guess it's part of human nature that you feel more comfortable buying from someone you know.

PJ and I celebrated the 60th birthday of the '56 oval this past weekend. The car was built on July 4, 1956, and was originally shipped to England. As part of the celebration, PJ captured these shots of the car and me in action.

Yeah, it makes me happy every time I look at it.
I'm having fun taking it for short runs around town, but once the hot part of the summer is over, I need to get it out on another road trip.
