Wesley was kind to share more photos of his Herbie before and after. Reminds me of Original and Fully Loaded.

Where did you get that hood emblem?!
Nice car man. What year is it? I noticed you hace black rubber dash knobs like mine. And is that a Decklid lock on your glovebox??

Nice. He'd do well to find some over rider support tubes and bumper spacers for his bumpers. Could have benefited from this, too. Looks like the hood gumball ended up on
his driver's door.

Steve, it's a 1967 (first picture, 12v upright headlights, with over-rider bumpers pins it as a North American '67-I have one, too).

Yeah, unfortunately, the stripes are woefully narrow.
It's a pretty nice car, but it looks like he lost his bumper hardware along the way. |

Are we not being a little toooo picky here? I'm not that "up" on the minor diferences (I can normally spot incorrect graphics a mile away!) but I
can see that the spacing on the door gumball is wider on this car than on the real herbie/greg's graphics. But I've just spent 10mins looking back and
forth with the car in the tutorial and this car and apart from it being a lighter blue, i can't see how it differs.
Not that I don't know that Greg's are the best but I just can't see it. Maybe slightly narrow but "Woefully"? I did just notice the stripes go across the parcel shelf. Novel. you could make them go over the dash too.

The car is super nice.
The stripes in the kit he got are too narrow. Way too narrow. This is often a hallmark of cheaper kits. Also, kits sometimes come with 3 identical gumballs and a fourth one with wider spacing between the 5 and 3 for the hood. This is done because the 5 is physically wider than the 3, so to place the hood gumball in the middle, there needs to be more white space between them. It's tough to tell in these photos, but there's a possibility that the hood gumball, if it's different, was placed on the driver's door. Another issue. The door gumball should be dead center front to back, and between the bottom of the door and the chrome strip. It's often placed too high and/or too far back. While you might not notice, it can often make the difference between a passable Herbie and a fantastic one. This late in the game Steve, and after all your hard work, I hope you realize that a good Herbie and a great Herbie are achieved in the details, and don't botch it by misplacing the decals, simply slapping them on where you think they look "OK." |

...and yes, woefully narrower, by at least an inch. The kit above makes the stripes look like an afterthought.

I will go back ancompare some more photos. I do realise that the decals can make or break a car if done wrong. Its not just a case of getting a white car and
slapping 53 on it. We've all seen those.
I've spent months agonising over whether I'll get the paint done ok. I seem to have cracked that but I'm already starting to worry about graphic placements. Its a one time chance and I do not want it wrong. Most common is hood gumball in the centre of the hood not the front. I'm seriously fretting...

Having the 53 logo on where the VW logo goes on the hood at the top in that picture on a Herbie, that's another great idea!
Maybe I should do that for my racing Herbie! |

It's too bad Jason can never seem to direct his buddies our way. They'd benefit from our on line information and we'd be able to find out where he
had thet cool hood emblem made.

I'll talk to Wesley and see if he has the time to join, busy with school and all. Same for Cliff, i'll need to get him online as well. The whole car is
awesome and his hood logo is perfect.

They screw you enough on final value fees. Must they also control how we pay for everything we buy? Yes, I give them credit for making a smart business decision to buy paypal, but forcing everyone to use it and eliminating our choice to pay for things with paper -- check, money order or cash, -- strikes me as unAmerican. I used to spend a lot of time buying on eBay, and I haven't used it at all this year because of this. I'll step off my soapbox now. With all due respect to the owner of the car and to the car itself, those graphics suck. The numbers are spaced close together on the hood, and spaced apart on the doors and decklid. I've seen them before and that's how they're made. (I keep a close watch on the "competition" because prior to me, there was nobody else providing them) I've seen a lot worse. They're definitely passable, and far be it for me to claim that mine are perfect, but those are just not right.

I'm going to have to agree with the PayPal rant for sure, however I like the look of the car. To me the graphics just don't make as big a difference.
By my own admission I'm no purist either, though.
But either way that is one heck of a fine makeover!
