K2, shops may charge $500 for such a job, but it's not to fix the dent, it's to refinish. Partly because it'll usually look a little better and partly because they can get paid a lot more to do it, they'll insist on painting a large section of the car and blending it in so that it can look as flawless as possible. If they'd agree to just spot paint, the price would shrink quite dramatically.

Repairing the hood will be a real challenge for an amateur, but a professional could certainly do it. The hood looks like it fits the car very well, and it would be most beneficial for it to stay with the car. If I was closer I'd love to tackle it for you. Look around your area and get some quotes before you write it off as trashed.

Metal is metal, and it can be pounded back into shape, welded if needed, and smoothed over with quality body filler where necessary.

Though it's not always the best option, I've always opted to or been asked to fix a car's original parts at all costs. I've never failed yet. I mean, I fixed this apron!
