I'm beginning to tear up the insulation paper covering the transmission tunnel, and that leaves a lot of the glue behind as well. What you suggest I get to scrap it off.
Why tear it off? If it's still good, leave it alone! The stuff was put on there for sound deadening, and as much as Kyle thinks its cool to ride around in a cacaphonous tin can, it's nice to preserve a car as a civilized automobile. The beetle is loud enough without amplifying every mechanical sound and gear growl.

If it's too late and you already tore the stuff off, why do you need to remove the glue residue? You don't see the tunnel anyway. It's hidden under rubber mat or carpet.
