No, you just can't see the new scratches.

Sorry to hear about the damage. We work so hard to make our cars look their best and spend hours keeping them up but if you don't drive them, what's
the point? Then when you do drive it some thoughtless potato brain does something like this and splits. They may not even be aware they tapped you. Also,
vintage VW's are much lower to the ground than many modern cars and trucks making them more susceptible to fender benders because other drivers can't
see them in their mirrors. Well, a fender repair / re-spray is a one day job, just have the paint color matched from the paint on the fender now.

A good repairman can even blend/melt in the color if it's not too big of a spot. Whites are VERY forgiving in this respect.

I live on a dirt road, so I've had to learn to live with rock chips, the worst was coming home from work and an oncoming semi sprayed me with rocks, that
was like machine gun fire. I got about 10 huge chips on the hood the door frame around the window, and the windshield. It really pissed me off, but I got over
it. I touched up the chips.
On a side note, I did see something the last week that I had never seen before and surprised me. Hebrie parked in front of a business that I had run into, and through the full glass front of the business I could see the passing traffic. Then I saw a person, walk up to Herbie, do the usual full 360 degree walk around. Then opened the door, sat in the car, did the Lindsey racing moves with the steering wheel, got out and closed the door. This wasn't a kid but a guy in late 20's early 30's. Weird. Makes me wonder what else happens when the car is not in my immediate line of sight.

A Herbie fan for sure, I guess. The windows were wide open, pop outs popped open, sunroof open, made no sense to lock the doors.

And I thought it was scary just getting the walk around and the peek in the windows at the interior.

"You have said in the past that whites are impossible to match. I have also heard Darby say that."
That's my experience as well. Especially L87. As we all know, this color looks different in every light, angle and condition. It fades to a lighter color and is easily spotted when the match is not spot on. Many colors are simple to match. L87 is not one of them. Kyle is correct in that he specified that, "A good repairman can even blend/melt in the color if it's not too big of a spot." However the truth is that it will be simpler if not cheaper to loosen the wing bolts, gently pull the beading, mask carefully and repair / paint the entire fender with custom matched paint, thereby avoiding the blending issues and any potential for match / blend flaws. 1776 CC's of pure bliss. |

Sailer likes to live on the edge. His motto could be that of Darkwing Duck's, "Let's get dangerous." As for paint chips and do-it-yourself
repairs I'm planning on keeping a batch of the L87 paint used to do the car so it's there whenever I need it.

Sorry to hear my friend, Herbie must be pissed, and wanting to run down that person. You should hire Horace The Hate Bug track that person, that teach him a
lesson.

Sorry to hear your news. Things happen as has been said but as someone that hates to leave any of my cars in a place where I can't see them, I know how you
must be feeling. Or rather, I know how I would feel if it happend to one of my cars. But I'm sure you'll get it fixed and the car will be as good as
new.

Oh no!
Sorry to hear about that Justin! That's murphy's law at times! Why did this have to happen for you, especially for Canada Day! I really hate that as much as you do! I bet you were going to take your Herbie out for Canada Day, weren't you? I feel your pain too, bud. I have been there before quite a few times. We're all sure that you can get it fixed! |

If I'm somewhere where I can keep an eye on it, I don't usually bother to button up the car. That seems to be the case with Sailer in this instance. It
seems like no-harm, no-foul, but I still would have gotten steamed because it's an invasion of personal space.

"Seems like things are certainly different over there to here......"
Sadly, many American's have become lazy, self centered, hyper-entitled pukes. Everything is about them. No sense of the common good, common courtesy or common decency. People often think we are owed everything. We have been spoiled for so long that we expect everything to be handed to us on a silver platter and right now! No waitning, no working for anything, no responsibility. It's always "They should..." "They need to..." "They can't make me...." No personal accountability or responsibility. People think nothing of simply sitting in another persons car and are indignant if even politely asked to get out. This is just like when my Bentley manual was taken from my unocked 64 Beetle and that person had to have been a fellow VW enthusiast. 1776 CC's of pure bliss. |
