Just an update as I'm not her very much these days. I've thinned the herd a little selling the LeGrande Bug one of the '78's and the Epilog
'79. I think I'm finally groing up as I've realized that hording all these cars isn't doing anyone any good. I've finished the '71
sunroof Ghia and sent the Split window off to get the dent and cat scratches fixed, it's paint job is 25 years old and a little elbow grease courtesy of
the insurance company will do it good.
On the Herbie front I've torn back into Herbie's engine changing the cam and lifters to hydraulic, hemi cut the heads and am going to leave it mild
with dual carbs and vintage trimmings. I had the transmission re-done with 68 gearing and am all over the front axle right now. He'll be down off the jacks
in a couple of weeks 1st time in 4+ years proudly wearing his HFL 15x6 wheels and new 195 / 205 tires. I parted out a low mileage totalled '65 and got a
perfect harness and all the electrical stuff and removed about 300 feet of wiring that went between the trunk, engine house and back seat but was all cut off
within Herb. I sorted through my used bumpers and have a great set, not too perfect but very usable.
Question of the day is this: My front apron (clip) is a new replacement and it is mounted a touch too high so the trunk lid hangs low enough it's out of
the weather seal across the apron and would never latch. I was thinking about just mounting a couple of external race car latches way at the bottom such as the
X-Rocky Mountain race car had. They won't show due to the bumper and if I ever feel I need to lower the apron I'd just do the outer skin and would have
to do a little paint anyway so a couple holes is not a big deal to fix. Option two would be a Pin / Lock under the handle in the center.
