So a nice gift I got in the mail today from my mother is the 1978 news paper clipping featuring my brother and cousin playing with the garden hose and our Herbie pedal car. The car did have stripes and numbers as paper decals that soon faded and cracked/tore. I remember them being '53's, but from the photo it looks like the #1, which could have been our own 'resto' handy work, as Herbie has always been #1 in our book, but who knows it was a long time ago.

Model Railroader Magazine

I picked up a special issue of Model Railroader Magazine and it had an article on these very detailed city scenes. It appears that they moved many of the same cars around for the magazine shoot, but the craftsmanship is amazing! Of course what caught my eye was a Type34 Ghia and an early Beetle.

In this one the Beetle is hiding behind the front train engine.

Some years ago I had picked up a supply of these EMPI Volkswagen Holiday Christmas Buses from a diecast supplier who was selling out his inventory. This thread is to gauge interest in how many folks would be interested in another model build off, this time with VW transporters? (vans/buses/pickups, etc.) Any kit may be used, the only requirement is that it must be some form of an unassembled plastic hobby kit or a restoration/rebuild of a plastic hobby kit, and it must be built up during this build-off. You cannot enter a finished model. We also would enjoy seeing progress pictures posted.

Putting this up for those that may have missed it. Here's one on eBay that a friend I do some trading with in Germany has. It's from 2004 and only had 1000 pieces made. 1/87th scale is about the same as a Schuco Piccolo, but features seperate chassis with an interior (in gray). The detail on this Herbie is superb for it's size. The 53 font is dead on and even has an OFP 857 plate on the back.
