Hey guys, while browsing The Samba, I discovered this car in Austin.
The guy wants 2500 dollars obo. I called him to get a few more details, and he told me the car runs fine, has a few dents around the fender and there is some rust where the battery goes, somewhere on the wheel well, and some where the spare tire goes. He also mentioned a little bit of bondo on the front of the car.
It seems like a decent deal, considering the small things.
Any opinions?

Volkswagen of America's sales were up 7.2% in October compared to the same period a year ago. Looks like the Jetta and CC are carrying the lineup. Even Touareg had some sales gains too. The vehicle that surprised me that is hasn't done better is the Tiguan. Here's the figures below:

Sunroof installation (done)

I've begun the first steps of the process.
The instructions provided are very clear and easy to follow, the sunroof assembly itself is very simple to.
The first step is to separate the frame from everything else. An easy task with the removal of about 10 bolts.

The flexibility becomes very apparent once this is done.

Next is to make a template...

Narrowed front beam

Hey, I was wondering how many of you guys who have built Herbies for road and track use have opted for a narrowed front beam? I mean if you use wider wheels and tires, and maybe disc brakes, which would widen the track some more, should it be brought back in line so it will all fit under the fenders? or are there other options?

an interesting thought crossed my mind the other day. Maybe someday when I have better resources and the drive to finally do a body off restoration with my car, why not replace the body all together?

my plan is to either find a small window body shell, or a car with a rolling chassis, and mount the body on my 72 pan. Then I could just transfer all of the new parts from my car onto the new body. My reason for...

I was scrounging around my parts stash yesterday and came across this Hoover bit still connected to the oil cooler on a seized up engine (it was a 75). Are they really that important to have and are they as rare as people are making them out to be?

OK, so I am idle but I have been priviledged to borrow while Herbie is being built a nice 74 Karmann Cabriolet 1303 1600.
The premise to this is that I sort out a small niggle that has recently plagued it. It was running beautifully till last week and still runs like a dream except it will NOT idle at all.
Hot / cold it makes no odds. Driving is fine as long as you don't need to stop but when you do and dip the clutch, you get a small splutter and it dies.

I just picked up the December issue of HotVWs and there's a great spread on Howard Creps 51 Split turbo. I was enamored with this car at the Pittsburgh Classic #2 in Sept. And it's great to see a feature on it to get all the details of the car. Not that I condone doing this to a split, but just the level of detail makes this one a winner.
